Nothing craves TLC more than a crown full of unkempt curls—just ask the ladies, fellas!  So if you’re a longhaired guy who wants to have your curls and rock them too, Ouidad has some simple moves that are sure to smooth out the tangles and give your lengthy style the care it craves.

Our hair is a valuable resource that our body naturally cares for by secreting oils through the scalp, keeping locks lubricated and supple.  Of course the more hair you have, the more hair there is to absorb the oil.  But these oils also trap dirt that needs to be washed away, allowing the scalp to produce fresh lubricant to keep your hair healthy.

Harsh shampoos, and shampooing too often, can strip away these natural oils that are essential for your curls. That’s also why it’s so important to choose your products with care: Ouidad shampoos are gentle cleansers made specifically for curly hair.  Try Water Works Clarifying Shampoo after a workout or a dip in the pool. It’s great at removing chlorine and build-up without stripping hair of exactly what it needs to look and feel good.

Remember what Ouidad always says: less is more! A daily shampoo is not necessary; you need to let the natural oils lubricate and protect your hair.  So consider skipping a day or two.  And on days when you do not shampoo, use Ouidad Sun Shield Sun & Sport Leave-In Conditioner to refresh your hair.  Sun Shield is effective against the drying elements common to outdoor activities, like the sun, wind, salt and chlorine.

Remember guys, healthy curls are a lot easier to style and manage than damaged ones.  And Ouidad is here to help make life easier by making sure your curly locks get all the care they need and deserve!

Are you a man sporting naturally handsome curls? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Ouidad makes it easy for men with curls to live frizz-free! Here’s how:

1. Ban the brush

Brushing curls is a mistake a lot of people make each morning. Unfortunately, if you do this when your hair is dry, it can lead to unwanted frizz. Instead, try gently running your fingers through your curls in an effort to bring back the bounce. Or try our Double Detangler which helps keep your locks frizz-free.

2. Learn which product works for you

So many men are afraid to wear anything but gel in their hair. However, it’s perfectly acceptable to use whatever product will make your hair look and feel great. A product like our Botanical Boost will revive your curls and help fight frizz.

3. Let your hair fly free

Don’t be afraid to sport your curls around town. This is easy to do when you know how to care for your curls. Next time, leave the hat or elastic band at home and feel what it’s like to live with curl confidence.

Go curly!

Cascading Curls through the 20th Century: Harpo Marx’s Curls Were a Laughing Matter!

The Marx Brothers—Groucho, Chico, Harpo, Zeppo and the lesser known Gummo—were known for the wild stage and film antics in their comedies, made in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. Each brother had a different showbiz “character” and a trademark personality. Our favorite? Why Harpo, of course! With his signature curly hair, a top hat and his horn, Harpo’s curly character stole the show in nearly every scene … and all without speaking a line!

So what about this curly Marx brother’s hairstyle? Well, when Harpo was young and not “in character,” his hair was a nice brown color and the curls were dense and —dare we say it?—rather sexy!

But later, as he performed as the loveable but mischievous Harpo in the classic Marx Bros films and stage productions, Harpo favored that famous and zany curly wig that can only described as outrageous! It definitely worked for his character—and makes a great Halloween costume still today—but we would not recommend the hair style to our Ouidad clients!

Harpo’s name was actually Arthur Marx; he was a gentle and talented member of the popular and brilliant theatrical family.  As his son notes on his website: “There were two Harpos—the actor and the man.  The actor was the one who horsed around with his brothers and pulled all sorts of junk from that bottomless pit of a trench coat. But it was also the dedicated family man who sat down and played the harp.”

So here’s to Harpo (or Arthur) … may his curls live on as some of the most notable and hilarious in entertainment history!
