Curls for a Cure – Ouidad Helps to End Breast Cancer, Dollar-For-Dollar

October is National Brest Cancer Awareness Month

ribbonmonday We all know the need for medical research to prevent and cure disease, and when someone has fought the battle and survived a disease, the need and urgency just comes into sharper focus. Ouidad knows the battle that millions of women fight each year with breast cancer. She herself is a survivor.

In 2002 Ouidad was diagnosed with breast cancer, the same disease that took her mother’s life. While she was treated, and recovered, she vowed to continue the battle in support of all women. So in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ouidad’s Curls for a Cure partner, will be very busy!

Ouidad’s goal is to raise $100,000 this year for research, to add to the quarter million dollars raised since the Curls for a Cure organization began. To help this effort, Ouidad and Curls for a Cure will match your donations – dollar-for-dollar – up to a total matching contribution of $50,000 for 2009 alone!

The statistics on breast cancer are staggering; Ouidad wants to change those numbers, and you can help. Donations can be made directly online, or even as an add-on to your shopping basket during check-out, while making a purchase. Let’s work together with Curls for a Cure to help end breast cancer and save women’s lives.

Shakira, The Hip Shaking She Wolf, Rocks Some Truly Awesome Curls

Her ‘hips don’t lie’ and neither do we here at OuidadShakira has got an amazing head of cascading curly hair!

The multi-talented singer, songwriter and dancer was born and raised in Colombia, South America. She is most well-known for hits like “Whenever, Wherever” and “Hips Don’t Lie,” but it’s those waves and waves of fantastic curls that we admire most of all!

It’s interesting, Shakira was photographed with a straightened up hair style at an event.  Now we’re not saying that’s a bad thing – we understand that it’s sometimes fun to switch up your style and try out a sleeker ‘do’.  Ouidad will even show you how! It’s just that Shakira’s look was referred to as “more sophisticated” because of her straightened hair, that leaves us perplexed, especially when curls can be the height of sophistication!

For the most part though, we just love that Shakira’s not afraid to sport her natural waves at almost every public event!  She is able to make curls look either sophisticated or casual depending on the situation.  Just check her out here, speaking as the honorary chairperson for the “Global Campaign for Education.” What a great role model for all those naturally curly kids!

You can check out Shakira’s latest album, She Wolf, and even try her hair style out on yourself!
