Ouidad Shows You How To Straighten Up … (If You MUST!)

While we know that you love (and love to flaunt) your naturally beautiful curls, we understand the appeal of a new style – Ouidad says go ahead and straighten occasionally! Be sure though, that you use deep conditioners, so that the occasional blowouts won’t cause major breakage.

Another important tip is to always shampoo and condition before you blow dry, because dirty hair will cause more breakage. Leave a small amount of conditioner (on the ends only) to help protect your mane from heat damage. You should use a large, round, natural-bristled brush; the larger the better to smooth your hair. Spray a leave-in conditioner like our Botanical Boost and keep a few clips around to section the hair.

To straighten, Ouidad says to divide hair into five sections, top, sides, crown and nape:  Starting at the nape, unclip a one-inch section then re-clip the rest to keep it out of the way.  Hold the brush at the roots with one hand and with the other hold the dryer downward and about two inches from your hair.  Roll the brush down while the other hand follows with the dryer.  Continue this until your whole head is completely dry.  It will probably take 30-40 minutes to complete.

Finally, to perfect the look, blow dry cool for added shine and work in a small amount of a finishing product like our Shine Glaze and enjoy!  But not too much since your lovely natural curls are just a wash away!
