The Ouidad Blog recently caught up with curly haired Latina actress, the gorgeous Marili Mejias. We wanted to find out more about her career as well as learn more about those amazing locks! Here are some highlights of our interview…

Ouidad Blog: You come from a Puerto Rican background, tell us about your upbringing…

Marili: I was born in the Bronx, New York and both my parents come from two huge Puerto Rican families. They are strong individuals who taught us a lot of traditional Latino family morals and values.

Ouidad Blog: What do you love the most about having curly hair?

Marili: I feel so natural when I wear it curly. I feel more organic and carefree about how it looks!

Ouidad Blog: Have you always embraced your curls?

Marili: I didn’t learn to really love my curls until I got older and realized I had something different and unique about me most women wanted. I embrace my curls now, more than ever because it’s less work and I am obsessed with the natural look. My look, my image is very much associated with my curls… makes me stand out!

Ouidad Blog: Do you have any quick, curly hair tips for those of us with busy lifestyles?

Marili: When I don’t have the time to tend to my curls and they’re just not cooperating, I just place my hair in what I call the “J. Lo ponytail.”  I slick it back in a mid to high ponytail, smooth out some baby hairs in the corners of where my hairline and face meet, and let the curly “poofi-ness” just hang out.
