Something is sizzlin’ by the pool this summer and it’s not just the sun. While the temperatures are climbing, and those luscious Latina locks are looking so good, curl envy is rising by the minute!

And everyone wants to know, especially las chicas, how you manage to keep those curls looking so good under the hot sun, and while slipping in and out of a chlorinated pool. Thankfully, it’s not that difficult and the recipe isn’t exactly a secret: Ouidad knows that it’s as easy as 1-2-3!

1. Love your curls. If you embrace your curls and love them as they are, you’re already well on your way to sporting pretty pool locks, because you understand your unique, curly personality.

2. Use the right products. At the pool, Ouidad’s Sun Shield Sun & Sport Leave-In Conditioner is your not-so-secret weapon that protects your curls against damaging environmental factors. It also helps to create softer, smoother, and shinier curls.

3. Gently towel dry your hair. A huge mistake Latina beauties make when getting out of the pool is roughly drying their hair. Check out this quick Ouidad video on how to gently towel dry your curls:

So take care of those curls this season, and don’t leave home without your Ouidad (and your sunscreen)! ¡Disfruta el verano!

If you have an active kid with spunky curls, Ouidad knows that it’s probably hard to get him or her to sit still for much of anything. However, getting your little one into the right hair stylists’ chair is super important for curly kids. Not only will the proper haircut make your child look cuter (can that be possible?!) but it will help with those tangles, frizzies and all sorts of curl-issues. Your child will feel better too!

The very best haircut for curls, even on children, is Ouidad’s trademarked Carve & Slice cut. This is Ouidad’s method, created 25 years ago specifically with curls and waves in mind. In a nutshell, Carving & Slicing removes the bulk associated with the dreaded “pyramid” look, while preserving and enhancing your natural curl patterns. This combination produces well-defined ringlets that fit gently into each other like the pieces of a puzzle, creating healthier, more manageable curls.

And, this technique can work on all hair lengths, so whether your young one prefers their hair in a long or short style, you’re in luck! Ouidad recommends haircuts for kids (and adults!) with curls every 10-14 weeks to keep the style intact.

One thing to keep in mind: the unique Carve & Slice method is only available at Ouidad-certified salons, so beware of stylists claiming to “Carve & Slice” without the intense training and understanding of curly hair that only the Curl Experts at Ouidad salons receive.

Good luck with your child’s haircut … and be sure to take a few photos to post on our Ouidad Facebook page!

Cooking is an endeavor full of creativity and exuberance, so maybe that’s why there are so many vivacious, curly chefs out there! Now comes curly-clad Kristina Kuzmic, joining the ranks of cooks with curls like Nigella LawsonBobby Flay and legend Julia Child. This talented and beautiful woman recently competed for—and won—a television show on Oprah’s new OWN network.

Naturally Curly spoke to Kristina to find out more about her and her hair, and reported that she loves the fact that she doesn’t have to wash it every day. She also mentions that she’s on the lookout for a great styling line … and Ouidad certainly hopes she’ll give some of our styling products, like Tress Effects styling gel and PlayCurl volumizing foam a try!

It’s wonderful to see a beautiful head of curls bouncing around a television kitchen. We couldn’t agree more with Naturally Curly, which said “It’s so refreshing to see someone in the media who embraces her curls instead of pressing, relaxing or hiding them to appeal to the public.”
