Even with all the negative press and health/safety concerns reported on the Brazilian blowout treatment, some women are still having it done. Ouidad certainly sympathizes with the frustration of frizz and knows that some women will do anything to get rid of it. However, certain hair-straightening techniques—particularly the Brazilian blowout—will truly damage your hair and can even jeopardize your health. Brazilian blowouts and other chemical straightening techniques dry and strip the hair, rendering it flat and lackluster … and badly damaged.

Fortunately, Ouidad is able to offer curly gals an alternative to these harsh techniques. The Ouidad Softening System, a technique that we’ve used for over twenty years, enables curly-haired women to wear their hair straight or curly without any damage to the hair. Ouidad discusses this treatment in this video:

In Ouidad’s softening system, the percentage of sodium hydroxide is as low as 3% added to a base of restructuring and moisturizing proteins with amino acids; this helps keep the bonding band in place so it will not break, but softens a bit to expand and loosen the curl. And each softening treatment is customized to the specific needs of the client’s hair and health and is monitored very closely. It is also left on a less time than your standard relaxers.

Contact Ouidad to see how you can have more a relaxed, softer hair without resorting to dangerous treatments. If, however, you’ve already had a Brazilian blowout treatment, Ouidad has some advice to help you grow it out.  Eventually, you’ll have your beautiful, healthy, vibrant curls back!

I wish I could say Ouidad has changed my hair and made it healthier and more lively. I feel like I’ve tried EVERYTHING. When I found Ouidad, I had hoped it would change everything and I’d never have to get a BB or wear frizzy, dry hair again. Unfortunately I had used it for 2 years now and not much of a difference. The only thing I have hope for is to go to a Flagship salon, to get a carve & slice cut and a deep treatment which is 2-3 hours away and spend money that I don’t have. *sigh* Any other recommendations?

    Dear Melanie,

Thank you for writing in, we are sorry to hear you are having a difficult time with your curls! We highly recommend doing 3 Deep Treatments in a row to bring your curls back. Ouidad’s 12 minute deep treatment Used with heat, the mix of proteins and Amino Acids effectively penetrates hair to bond with the cuticle, leaving hair revived and restructured. We would recommend using Ouidad 12 minute Deep Treatment. The 12 minute Deep Treatment penetrates through the hair cuticle to nourish the internal structure of your curls, restoring bounce and controlling frizz, helping your curls to grow and stay healthy and defined. We recommend using the 12minuite Deep Treatment 1-2 times per month depending on the health of your curls. Also if you color treat your curls using the 12 minute Deep Treatment three days before coloring gives the strands substance and allows the colorants to absorb evenly and the repeat the process ten days after coloring, to keep the color molecules bonded and to prevent fading.

You can use the Curl Quencher shampoo and conditioner for in the shower cleansing and moisturizing. The Curl Quencher Shampoo is a gentle, daily cleanser to pamper and nourish dry, thirsty curls. It is safe for color-treated, permed or straightened curls; use along with the Curl Quencher conditioner – to help you detangle even the most unruly of curls; it seals in moisture and protects fragile, damaged hair with vitamins and botanicals. It is best to cleanse your curls every second to third day as frequent shampooing can contribute to dryness; it is safe to condition ever other day by rinsing with warm water for the best results; however if there is a tendency of weighed down curls you can combine the Curl Quencher shampoo with Ouidad Balancing Rinse for an even amount of moisture.

Replace your brush with a Ouidad’s Wide-Tooth Comb as it is easier to damage curly hair with a brush, whether wet or dry. Detangling your curls while dry with any tool is not a good idea; separating the curls dry just causes more frizz. Leaving some conditioner in dry sections like the ends is always a good idea!

To help you eliminate the frizz while styling; you can use our Climate Control Heat and Humidity gel. The Climate Control contains heat-activated European Wheat Protein has a shielding effect on hair that breathes with the humidity, protecting the hair shaft and preventing hair from expanding. Amino Acids and Vitamin A nourish and hydrate hair, leaving it soft, manageable and full of shine; it’s also excellent at protecting hair from blow-dryer heat when a straight style is desired. Gently scrunch your hair with a t-shirt, paper towels, or a micro-fiber towel to remove excess moisture, as a terrycloth towel will cause friction and will lead to frizzy curls. You can defuse and or let you curls air dry. Good luck in bring those curls back to life! Hopefully this helps! If you have any further questions please feel free to contact one our curl experts at 1-800-677-4247 Mon-Fri 9am-5pm eastern time. Thank you and have a great day.

    Best wishes,
