At Ouidad we’re always looking for interesting curls on the silver screen, and we were royally delighted to see Helena Bonham Carter donning a retro-wavy look in her recent portrayal of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the duchess of York in the historical drama and Oscar nominated film The King’s Speech.

We’ve long admired the talents of Helena Bonham Carter, who has mesmerized audiences with some pretty wild hairstyles over the years in diverse films such as Fight Club and Alice in Wonderland. She’s also sported a haunting curly look in her reoccurring role of Bellatrix Lestrange in the hugely successful Harry Potter series. Ms. Carter actually did “double curl duty” last year, as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was filmed concurrently with the production of The King’s Speech.

While her performance in The Kings Speech has been critically acclaimed both here and across the pond, it’s her coiled locks that have Ouidad praising her as royalty. Here at Ouidad, our own Queen of Curls would agree that Carter’s role as the self-assured and elegant Duchess (and mother of the current Queen Elizabeth II) fits perfectly with those confident and wavy curls. All we can say is, God save the Queen!
