Because I Love My Curls!

Tuesday, 25 May 2010 by Ouidad-The Curl Experts

I don’t know what it is like to be a teenager with curly hair and to not like it. Growing up as the daughter of the Queen of Curl (Ouidad), I never had the chance to experience a bad hair day. I never had the frustration of frizzy, big, out-of-control hair. I never fell to the pressure of straightening my hair because I loved the spring and bounce it brought to my life. I was always asked why I don’t straighten my hair and I always replied with the same answer . . . “Because I love my curls!”

When I was in High School, I was envied because my hair always looked good. It looked good because I knew how to work with it. During school and in between classes, I would go into the bathroom and style my classmates’ hair and teach them about the Ouidad techniques. This was always easy because I had great products like Climate Control and Botanical Boost. When prom came around, I did a lot of curly styles and I realized that I was taking away my friends’ frustration with their hair. Some of the girls said that I inspired them to love their curls! What a compliment!!

Now I am in the salon working and listening to clients talk about their own hair frustrations from over the years. I think how lucky I am to not have this anxiety with my hair. I work with teens and college-age clients and show them how to work with their hair. I am very lucky to do something I love!

    Sondriel,
I am 61 years old and I have been straightening my hair non-stop since I was 13 years old. I hated my curly, frizzy hair for all those years. Since I found Ouidad’s website and after trying her techniques, I am going curly at last. My ultimate wish would be to be chosen for a hair model and get a Ouidad inspired cut.

TELL me About IT! I come from Morocco where almost everyone has super-curly hair, but the sad thing is, they all straigten it. My mother is American, and she never let anyone straigten my hair, she taught me to embrace my curls, even though she herself doesn’t have that curly hair. However, there isn’t really that much information out there to work with curls, unfortunately… So your mother’s website is holy grounds to me. :) I Just found it today, and I can honestly tell you: I’m SYCHED!!!!

I just ordered my starter kit and I’m so excited to try Ouidad’s products.

I have to say, when I was in high school I finally was able to grown out my very short haircut from middle school (I hated my hair then) and people really responded with amazing comments. :) I’ve even had people ask, “You don’t perm it? None at all?” HAHA Nope. My fiance, we are getting married in September, loves my hair and the only time I straighten it is when I come home from the salon every three months. He likes the temporary look but always loves when the curls are back the next day! I don’t know how gals straighten their hair with a flat iron everyday, I couldn’t find the time for sure.

Before I go though, I knew a previous boyfriend wasn’t for me when one day he said, “Why don’t you straighten your hair?” I told him I didn’t want to, I liked it curly and bouncy. That’s when he said the words that let me know we were just NOT meant to be together, he said he thinks my hair would look better straight. HAHA Don’t think so. I broke it off less than a week later. ;)

I had the great pleasure of being a hair model this past saturday. Sondriel worked with me and totally took the time to first, listen to my concerns and wants for my hair, and then she explained step by step everything she did with my hair. It was like a tutorial on how to style my hair! She was totally confident and that made me completely trust whatever she decided to do with my cut. I was extremely pleased with my final look and will absolutely go back and make a real appointment with her in the future. I wished I could tip her but was told we weren’t allowed :( I wanted to leave a comment on the site but she is not listed yet under the stylists so I went searching and found her blog posting. Imagine my surprise when I read that she’s Ouidad’s DAUGHTER!!! How cool!!!! Well, I feel honored to have had her cut my hair ;) Thank you Sondriel!

I am so enjoying reading everything I can about ouidad and the Ouidad method of taking care of my curls. Hard to believe but I never knew I was a curly gal until 2 years ago. I had been cutting my hair super short and blow dried for some 40+ years! Then my daughter who became a cosmetologist said I had natural curls. I let it grow, and while visiting in Arizona had a Ouidad cut last month. WOW! What a fabulous difference it made in how my curls mesh and go into soft beautiful ringlets. I LOVE all the products, they so enhance my curls, and even the hair coloring I have on my hair was brighter, lasting longer, and with more shine than ever. I am 66 years old and have never had so many compliments on my hair! There aren’t too many ladies out there my age who I’ve seen with well-cared-for lovely looking curls. My goal is to travel to a Ouidad salon in NYC and to pay for my daughter to be Ouidad trained by Ouidad, so she can become a ‘curl expert’ in her salon in NC.
