The red carpet can be a source of anxiety for any celebrity, and just add a steady rain to that equation and things can get pretty hairy. The 2010 Golden Globe Awards fell on an exceptionally wet night in Hollywood. (Who says it Never Rains in California?)

So what did it mean for this year’s winner for Best Actress in a Television Series, the curly-clad Julianna Margulies? Lots of concerns about maintaining her fashionable frizz-free curls!

The ER alum won a Golden Globe for her work on the new series The Good Wife, but her real challenge was trying to shelter her curls from that hazardous drizzle! She reported:

“I actually went in the back way and just came into where it was tented because with my hair, if I was in the rain I would just be a frizz ball by the end of the night”

Ouidad’s Golden Globe solution for Julianna’s curls quandary? Climate Control!  Our heat-activated European Wheat Protein shields hair and breathes with humidity. What could be better for a moisture-filled evening full of hungry photographers?

Congratulations to Margulies on a much deserved win; keep flaunting those fabulous curls, rain or shine!

Sure, it’s cold and windy. But don’t be so quick to blame the state of your hair on the state of the weather! Here are a few styling tips from Ouidad that you can incorporate right now to calm the frizz that comes with the season:

image002Thanks to naturallycurly.com for the Image

1. Shampoo only as often as your kinky curl pattern dictates.  It is always best to use your fingertips to massage your scalp and run your fingers downward to detangle curls.  But if you must comb your curls, be sure to use a wide-toothed comb. And only do so when hair is wet, being careful not to yank at tangled hair.

2. If you towel dry, be gentle, and do not over-handle your hair. Your natural curl pattern can quickly turn to frizz if your curls are touched too harshly or too often while they are drying.

3. When possible, keep your curls in the shade during  hot weather. Avoid excessive heat whenever possible, including shampooing or rinsing with very hot water, or using hot rollers, curling irons, straightening irons, blow dryers… or any other instruments of curly torture!

4. And if you simply cannot resist the chlorinated water of the swimming pool, remember to wear a snug-fitting swimming cap—and don’t be shy about doubling up if you have to. But then, after all, remember that there’s always Ouidad’s Climate Control to help block out excess humidity, and help fight the frizz!

Well, at least summer fashion planning is, and we know you California gals are always up on the hottest trends. So it makes sense that they’d stay ahead of the game by looking to summer sand time already!

Of course voluminous beautiful curly hair is always a beach staple. Think gorgeous waves like star Kate Hudson, or Anna Lynn McCord (pictured above) from Beverly Hills 90210. McCord is a great one to watch; she’s the personification of the “California girl,” with a lot of time put in at the beach!

And it may be that long hair is the summer must-have for 2010. It’s the perfect accessory to any sundress! Just look at former The Hills star, Lauren Conrad’s, long, flowing and golden locks! They definitely steal the show!

And remember, while you’re out there enjoying all that early summer fun, don’t forget to take the time to deep condition your hair with a product like Ouidad’s Deep Treatment. And keep an eye on all those California starlets for the latest twists in TV curls!

Lindsey Jacobellis Takes Her Golden Curls On A Wild Olympic Ride!

Who says athletes can’t maintain beautiful curls? Lindsey Jacobellis shows us how it’s done!

USAThanks to www.nbcolympics.com/ for the image

Growing up in Connecticut, Lindsey spent many a winter day perfecting her snowboard skills for competition on the world stage. She recently became the all-time leader in Snowboarding World Cup victories with 19 career wins.

At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Lindsey watched gold turn to silver with one quick slip on the snowboard cross course in one of the 2006 Games’ most unforgettable (and unlucky) moments. Now, in the winter of 2010, Lindsey’s in Vancouver, ready to compete at the XXI Olympic Winter Games, and go for the gold once again.

usacurlsThanks to www.nbcolympics.com/ for Image

Snowboard Cross is a relatively new event, making its Olympic debut at those 2006 Games. It involves several competitors racing on a course with sharp turns – similar to bobsled – but just add monstrous walls of snow to be jumped! Lindsey knows a thing or two about taming the snowboard course (the beast) as well as taming her curls. She can weather gnarly tangles from helmet-head as well as gnarly turns on the course! Not cold, wind, snow, or even her helmet can defeat her golden curly locks.

Lindsey looks like a winner on the course, during post race interviews and in the photo studio – all done with great style. “Go Lindsey, Go!” We’ll look for you on the podium with a gold medal and your winning golden curls!

It’s difficult to mention the sport of snowboarding without thinking of Shaun White and his spectacular red curls. “Superpipe”“Halfpipe” –  “Slope Style” – White has won them all, from the Olympics to the Grand Prix. This winter, Ouidad is watching White take his intrepid snowboarding style–and corresponding curls to match–to Vancouver on his quest for additional Olympic gold!

Dubbed the Flying Tomato for both his curly red hair and amazing snowboard skills, White created a snowboarding frenzy with his Olympic Gold performances in Torino, in 2006. His easy going California personality and outstanding snowboarding have made him a superstar among sports fans – young adults and kids. He was recently featured on 60 minutes, on January 31st in a piece by Bob Simon. He even has his own Wii Game!

As White shows us, you can have a busy, active life and luscious natural curls. Ouidad knows what it takes to keep curls like White’s in great shape; even with training in the freezing cold all winter (and on wheels in the summer heat) and all that time spent in his helmet! Shaun can avoid a helmet static attack with Ouidad’s Botanical Boost Spray and then fight the cold and beat the heat of competition, by keeping his curls hydrated with Ouidad’s 12-minute Deep Treatment.

¡Ouidad te ayuda a hacerlo fácilmente!

A Winter Style by Ouidad

Almost all consultations with my clients start with a request (sometimes a demand)…”it has to be fast and easy!”  Easy, yes but always fast. Never mind, beautiful curls being the first request; it’s always “fast and easy.” But it’s my privilege to introduce them to their very own beautiful curls. And show them the fastest and easiest way to achieve them.

In the winter time I’ve noticed constant, recurring requests for less hair- just a little shorter, no talk of longer hair. “What’s up?” I asked my winter client.  “I have to deal with more dryness, cold, and drying time,” said my client, “and how about coats, sweaters and scarves?” She is not a shy curly head. I gave her a fresh, easier winter cut and fast simple styling advice.

Our latest hair product, Moisture Lock, is an immediate remedy without adding another step.  Depending on the texture and thickness of your hair, add a few drops or our Moisture Lock to your styling product, my favorite is Climate Control. Mix the two together in your palm and apply as before. You will achieve smoothness with softness. When dry, run your palms over your curls to soften and open them up, you may not even need apply finishing product. I prefer to use Moisture Lock as a styling product because it works.

Some of my fearless snow women will run out after just applying Moisture Lock while raking  and blotting. That’s my group of curly Heroines!

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Has Got Comedy And Curls!

We’ve known and loved Julia Louis-Dreyfus long before Seinfeld first premiered in 1990; back when she was a cast member on NBC’s Saturday Night Live from 1982 to 1985.

As the Seinfeld character Elaine Benes, she caught our eye with both her high-caliber comedy skills and wonderfully terrible dance moves. But all through the years of that classic comedy, it was her hair that kept us so mesmerized!

At one time, she sported that ‘90’s look with little product and a half-up, half-down ‘do, with cascading curls. In fact, she was once voted “Best Hair on TV!” in a TV Guide poll.  Women everywhere were trying to duplicate her coifed look and there were plenty of how-to articles to be found!

Lately the curly comedienne has modernized her look, now donning a fresh, fantastic head of curly hair! In her current hit sitcom, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Louis-Dreyfus is back at what she does best, comedy and curls! Louis-Dreyfus has echoed the sentiments of fellow curly girl, Bernadette Peters, admitting that she, too, struggled with her locks at one time, saying:

“It’s really ironic.  I always hated my hair, you know? When I was young, it was not cool to have curly hair. It’s been a source of anxiety, and now it’s causing this ruckus.”

We at Ouidad just love it when curly folks learn to embrace and love their fabulous curls!  Catch her show and all her curly splendor each week on CBS!
