It’s true; growing up really is hard to do. Adolescence can be one of the toughest times in anyone’s life; add to that something that makes you visibly unique (curly hair, braces, etc.) and the experience can be even more difficult.

Singer/actress, Mya, experienced these things. However, since 74% of us and Ouidad herself have experienced some curly-hair teasing, we’ve found it is absolutely true that amazing things can come from embracing our differences!

Mya has admitted to being constantly teased about her curls in the past. While every so often the teasing got the best of her, she used that time to develop her amazing talents, training as both a singer and dancer.  Learning to embrace her curls empowered Mya and boosted her self-esteem, giving her excellent perspective. Consider these words of wisdom from the smart, talented and beautiful star:

When teens open up a magazine, they feel like they have to look a certain way for people to accept them. One of the things I try to tell the girls, is ‘Hey, if you’re trying to look like this, it takes five hours.  Hair, makeup artists, stylists.”

Mya has definitely broadened her views of beauty and now enthusiastically celebrates her natural curls.  When asked which style she likes wearing best, she responded, I really like my hair curly…Curly hair is just easier to maintain.” Yes! We agree with you, Mya, and in fact, most of us do!

Ouidad siempre te aconsejará “alimentar” tu cabello rizado.

For the daily paces that Lifeguards put their curls through, its Ouidad to the hair-rescue with Sun and Sport Sun Shield Leave-in Conditioner to protect those curls from the harsh hair-realities of the hot, sun-soaked weather in Southern California. If damage has already been done, try a little first aid with Ouidad’s renew, restore and replenish!

Ouidad suggests washing natural curls only 2-3 times a week, and rinsing more often if necessary. Also to be proactive with the right protection, and maybe some deep treatment on that rare day off from the beach – it only takes 12 minutes! Work hard, play hard, look great – Ouidad knows the drill!
