Ouidad says turn your casual Friday ponytail into a night-on-the-town look just by pulling out a few extra tendrils and using a little styling lotion.

Headed to the beach or pool? Don’t have tress-stress, dive right in! After swimming, Ouidad says rinse your hair with water, then apply a daily conditioner to rebalance minerals.

Some extra advice from Ouidad, watch out for curling irons! They can singe hair and destroy the cuticle (the outer layer of your hair) – and she says, never use a curling iron on wet hair.

From bed-head and hat-head, to twisted mini braids and sun conditioning, let Ouidad help you make your curls stunning in any situation. You set the mood, with an undone or cascading updo, a sex-kitten look, or a carnival of curls.

Reese Witherspoon is also doing her fair share of fundraising.  Along with Avon’s Walk for Breast Cancer, Witherspoon helped raise $8.1 million in 2008!  And, don’t miss Jessica Simpson’s role as the spokesperson for QVC’s  16th annual “FFANY Shoes on Sale” event, which will donate net  proceeds to breast cancer research and education.

If you’re looking to get involved there are a slew of vehicles that help. Ouidad’s Curls For A Cure, which is an exceptional option with Ouidad matching dollar for dollar – is always a great way to show your support. To learn more, click here!

What do Comedian Chris Rock and our Ouidad have in common?

Well, Rock is also on a personal quest to instill curl confidence across the globe, and especially in his two young girls, Lola and Zahra. When his daughter asked, “Daddy, why don’t I have good hair?” Rock responded with a new movie that explores the lengths kinky haired people go to for a straight hair style, and in the process uncovered the serious impact that straight hairstyles can have on people with kinky hair.

Rock admits that he struggles with how to respond to his daughter’s questions about hair, but this new film is certainly a persuasive reply! But we all know that Ouidad has had the answer all along: she strives to make the care and styling of curls so easy and enjoyable that you’ll want to wear your hair kinky and curly every day, naturally. Remember: Less is more! As Director Rock might say, that’s a wrap!

Wear those kinky curls with pride!

In Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Ouidad Talks about Re-Growing Hair after Treatment

ouidadoct21

A woman’s hair is a sacred thing. In society it symbolizes beauty and femininity and it can be a large part of what makes us feel like who we are. And for Ouidad, well, it’s her life’s work. So, when a woman loses her hair as a result of cancer treatments, a terrifying time becomes even more overwhelming.

A breast cancer survivor herself, Ouidad knows firsthand about the possible side effects of treatments. While it is a daunting time for any woman, Ouidad wants everyone to know how important it is to try to stay positive. And when those first hairs begin to grow back, it is like a new beginning and something to rejoice in!

ribbon23

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Ouidad offers caring guidance on steps for re-growing (and loving) your new hair, post-cancer treatments. She reminds women to be patient while waiting for their hair to grow back. And she also says that it’s import to stay away from coloring for at least a year while your body recovers from the chemotherapy. Curly locks or straight, Ouidad conveys that going through cancer treatments and losing your hair is a drastic and stressful time. So no matter the color, no matter how curly or straight, when it comes to your new hair growth, Ouidad says: “Celebrate that it’s back!”

And as a dedicated advocate for the cause, Ouidad has built her Curls for a Cure organization, which is committed to helping find the cure. Learn more about Curls for a Cure, which has raised over $228,302 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Ouidad wants women to know that there is life after cancer – and it can be fabulous!

Curls for a Cure was originally created as a tribute to Ouidad’s mother who died of breast cancer and for Ouidad herself who contracted breast cancer at the same age her mother did.  As always, Ouidad’s message is one of hope, as she says,

Changing Seasons & Styles: Ouidad Has Help For Curls In Any Climate

As the seasons change, so does the weather, daily routines and schedules — and perhaps even your hairstyle!  That carefree bohemian look of summer with flip-flops and windblown beach hair may not be suitable for fall, although curls always work for a professional look at the office! Similarly, the cute cut that works well under a ski hat might not be the hottest look for spring.

When temperatures and humidity levels soar and scorching heat is in abundance, reach for Ouidad’s Climate Control; and if hair is a bit parched by winter’s cold, maybe it’s time to rehydrate with Curl Quencher. Don’t be afraid to talk to the stylist and alter your cut to suit a new daily routine, or for each season and humidity level, to keep those curls looking spectacular in all climates!

Curls for a Cure – Ouidad Helps to End Breast Cancer, Dollar-For-Dollar

October is National Brest Cancer Awareness Month

ribbonmonday We all know the need for medical research to prevent and cure disease, and when someone has fought the battle and survived a disease, the need and urgency just comes into sharper focus. Ouidad knows the battle that millions of women fight each year with breast cancer. She herself is a survivor.

In 2002 Ouidad was diagnosed with breast cancer, the same disease that took her mother’s life. While she was treated, and recovered, she vowed to continue the battle in support of all women. So in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ouidad’s Curls for a Cure partner, will be very busy!

ouidadmon

Ouidad’s goal is to raise $100,000 this year for research, to add to the quarter million dollars raised since the Curls for a Cure organization began. To help this effort, Ouidad and Curls for a Cure will match your donations – dollar-for-dollar – up to a total matching contribution of $50,000 for 2009 alone!

25yearsmonday

The statistics on breast cancer are staggering; Ouidad wants to change those numbers, and you can help. Donations can be made directly online, or even as an add-on to your shopping basket during check-out, while making a purchase. Let’s work together with Curls for a Cure to help end breast cancer and save women’s lives.

Shakira, The Hip Shaking She Wolf, Rocks Some Truly Awesome Curls

shakira Thanks to gallery.becomegorgeous.com for the Image

Her ‘hips don’t lie’ and neither do we here at OuidadShakira has got an amazing head of cascading curly hair!

The multi-talented singer, songwriter and dancer was born and raised in Colombia, South America. She is most well-known for hits like “Whenever, Wherever” and “Hips Don’t Lie,” but it’s those waves and waves of fantastic curls that we admire most of all!

It’s interesting, Shakira was photographed with a straightened up hair style at an event.  Now we’re not saying that’s a bad thing – we understand that it’s sometimes fun to switch up your style and try out a sleeker ‘do’.  Ouidad will even show you how! It’s just that Shakira’s look was referred to as “more sophisticated” because of her straightened hair, that leaves us perplexed, especially when curls can be the height of sophistication!

For the most part though, we just love that Shakira’s not afraid to sport her natural waves at almost every public event!  She is able to make curls look either sophisticated or casual depending on the situation.  Just check her out here, speaking as the honorary chairperson for the “Global Campaign for Education.” What a great role model for all those naturally curly kids!

You can check out Shakira’s latest album, She Wolf, and even try her hair style out on yourself!

Curls on Little Girls – Never Out Of Style!

Curls on little girls have been around forever and are always in fashion. Virginia Davis, the first Disney star and discovered by Walt Disney himself, sported traditional ringlet curls starting in 1923 playing “Alice” in 13 silent films – showing off her curls in each show.

More recently, Eleisha Miller keeps the curl tradition going on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, with a more natural, tossed curly look. Miller wowed the audience with her singing, piano playing, and savvy dance moves!

Getting curls right is getting easier thanks to Ouidad and our special products made just for children. You don’t need to miss another school bus, hear another “it hurts!” while trying to comb out tangles, or think that braids or pixie cut are the only answers for children with natural curls. The sooner that girls with curls learn how to make their curls shine, the sooner their hair can take its rightful place — center stage, as the star of the show!

Need help with those curls? Ouidad has answers – for stars of all ages!
