Your Personal Curl History & Stats!

As we all know, having curly hair is something special to celebrate. However, our Ouidad surveys show that 74% of us have been teased about our locks, so most of us are no strangers to a little “curl adversity”. Ouidad herself went through it!

Luckily, with maturity and the changing image of curls in the media, most of us have grown to accept and love our locks and tresses. When asked what one word describes your personality with curls 27% say sexy and 25% feel that curls make them individualistic.   It’s true, you’re not the only one who feels that way!

Despite some beautiful celebs with sleek, straight styles, we are seeing more and more curls making their way into magazines and onto the big and small screens. Perhaps Hollywood got the memo! Ouidad styles are making a splash all over, and our surveys also find that 68% of us are attracted to people with curly hair…even the boys are getting in on the curly craze!

With all of these fabulous statistics there’s one that has us grinning from ear to ear; when asked if we would ever permanently straighten our hair, a whopping 77% of us said no! That’s the spirit! Be proud of those curls, girls (and boys)!

You’ve heard it before—because we’ve said it a thousand times; the key to flaunting a head full of beautiful, healthy curls is what we here at Ouidad call Curls 101.  (Knowing your personal curl pattern, hair texture and curl condition).

Recently, video blogger Ayanna Naeela learned Curls 101 from the book Curl Talk: Everything You Need to Know to Love and Care for Your Curly, Wavy, or Frizzy Hair, written by Ouidad.  The book inspired Naeela to tackle do-it-yourself twists. And she succeeded with Ouidad’s helpful advice on conditioning and styling treatments, specially formulated to keep kinky hair looking its best.

A Fresh Start for My Client!

A client came in to the Santa Monica Ouidad Salon today after a year and a half of growing her hair following chemotherapy. She wanted to start fresh and trusted us for her new ‘do.’ I kept her length as much as possible while creating more movement and shape. I also established a new style and side part with more volume on top.

She was so happy and kept saying that she finally felt groomed! She was glad to learn she could throw away her brush and was amazed with the curls she could achieve with just the rake and shake technique! It gave me great pleasure to help her feel beautiful again and I look forward to seeing her soon!
