She Was In Tears When She Realized How Lovely Her Curls Looked!

Friday, 12 June 2009 by Sara

I had a woman in my chair today who told me that she has a constant struggle with her hair.  She can’t find any way to style her hair curly and feel comfortable about her appearance.  She started the appointment with lots of skepticism, thinking that her hair could not look as good as she wanted it to look.  She felt that her hair was a big part of her overall appearance and that it rarely looked good.

During her appointment we discussed many key points of curly hair care; not brushing when dry, not running fingers through the hair, and applying products when wet. After a simple change in the cut and a new approach with styling, she was amazed to see her curls looking silky and shiny.  And she was in tears as she realized how lovely she looked with her own naturally curly hair. She had always wanted curls like this and didn’t realize she had them all along.

I am always so pleased that I have the opportunity to show woman their true potential with their own hair.  Then they can feel more confident.

I am 56 years old and I feel the same way. I do have a woman who cuts my hair very well and tells me my hair has beautiful curl, but at work people are always encouaging me to straighten it. It is very fine, blonde, dry and frizzy. I have started using Climate Control gel from Ouidad and it does great but I can’t get away with the negative comments about my hair. If I did get it straightened it would stick to my head and I don’t find that particularly attractive. I am told by women with stringy hair how terrible my hair looks.

I think it’s a media thing. I have noted in the past decade how everyone is supposed to look the same, act the same etc. If you have curly hair straighten it and vice versa. I am lucky to have my hair stylist; she is very reasonable but I can’t afford $100 for a haircut. I keep thinking maybe it’s one product that will work or one hair cut, but I think it’s just me; I have to learn to accept my hair the way it is or become a slave to it like I have in the past. Thank you, Ouidad and NaturallyCurly.com, for giving me the freedom to wear my hair curly with your wonderful products. I am going to try more.

@Roe, it is totally a corporate misconception that curly hair is unprofessional. I have long, very thick, very curly hair and it took me a long time to become comfortable with my hair and to realize that it is truly one of my most beautiful assets. Even after that epiphany, I felt compelled to wear my hair in a bun on most days at the office. There are many reasons for that, but one of the primary reasons was that most of the upwardly mobile women had straight, or straightened, hair and it was as though it was part and parcel with their suits.

Keep your hair curly and buck the system. I do every day. It is only when we persevere that change occurs.

I have been using Ouidad products for a number of years, but I noticed that lately, they don’t work as they used to anymore. Also, last summer, I decided to get the carving and slicing haircut, and I was very pleased with it; and so when it was time for me to get a haircut again, I went back with no hesitation. This time I was not happy at all with it, my hair has become freezer than ever and next to impossible to calm the freeze. Two hours after I wash and style my hair, it becomes a freezeball, right on Q! so I end up wearing a ponytail everyday. Is it time for me to stop using Ouidad products?

Ouidad certified stylists strive to please their clients. We suggest contacting the stylist who cut your hair directly so the stylist can rectify the situation.

Frizz is a common issue for many people. The following is an explanation on what exactly causes frizz. Frizz is created when your hair lacks its own internal weight. The spiraled pattern of each curly strand forces the cuticle to stay open, inviting dehydrating forces such as heated styling implements, the sun, and dry artificial air to rob the hair’s inner segment of moisture and nutrients. The hair shaft is then virtually weightless, allowing tiny baby hairs to float away from the cuticle, creating that fuzzy halo effect. Well conditioned and hydrated hair possesses inner weight that prevents flyaways, fostered by a closed cuticle, thus sealing the hair shaft off from a ruffled cuticle and the resulting frizz.

We recommend to continue using Ouidad products to control your frizz and improve the overall health of your hair. Our first suggestion is nourishing your hair by using our Deep Treatment at least twice a month (or more) to restore its healthy pulse, which is weakened by the environment and frequent styling. Also, other Ouidad products to prevent frizz are: our Botanical Boost spray-in, leave-in conditioner and Climate Control gel. When applying the gel be sure to coat all of the hair in each section from roots to ends, to close the cuticle layer of the hair. Lastly, the best way to eliminate frizz is to dry your hair naturally.

I sometimes have that problem, but mine is that my curls tend to go limp, I have the playcurl foam and cc and bb. But I still seem to go limp later in the day, I have the ouidad cut too. Any suggestions?
