Curls: Get Them, So You Can Flaunt Them – Like Nicole Kidman

One of most famous and beloved curly-girls in the world is Nicole Kidman. While Kidman has done the “straight look” in her life, she has learned to work with her natural curls for many stunning looks over the years.

Kidman herself admitted that her hair was a bit of challenge. (something that Ouidad herself understands after working with her own head of curls)!

A star of so many popular movies, and most recently Australia, Kidman has continued to turn heads around the globe with her beautifully coifed locks.

She’s got curls, and is not afraid to flaunt them! If you have curly hair and are ready to show off your curls too, visit our style guide and our advice for the perfect curl.

Ouidad: Salons with Solutions

Have you ever heard the phrase, “Well, it will grow back!” Or perhaps found yourself re-styling your just styled hair? Pinning back puffy bangs (that looked great on that straight-haired starlet), or desperately trying to tie back hair with a rubber band into a teeny-tiny pony tail due to a bob gone wrong….Ouidad saw these problems happening to curly-haired women everywhere, and so opened a salon dedicated only to curls .  This first salon opened in 1984 in New York City .

Ouidad still offers top professional stylists at her flagship store on 57th Street who are specifically trained to work on curls.  The goal is to make sure that you can actually work with and love your style, as opposed to crying over it and redoing it later!

One client said,

“The stylist who did my hair really took the time to talk to me about exactly what I wanted from my cut before she actually put her hands on my hair.”

Curly west-coasters started to travel the 3,000 miles to New York to get their hair done with Ouidad. The solution was clear, and Ouidad then opened a salon in Santa Monica, California. Now those west coast clients are echoing the sentiments of New Yorkers! One client put it simply,

“Can I just say, life changing!”

All stylists from coast to coast are trained in Ouidad’s patented carving and slicing method, which prevents gallons of tears shed later because of curls that have been cut too short and blunt, left to frizz outward, so throw away those rubber bands for good and join us in one of our salons or online!  We want to hear from you!

We Earn the Trust of the Ouidad Customer

A friend recently asked me, “Are business ethics different from personal ethics? ” I said, “as far as your ethics question goes… you are your business… your business reflects your ethics.”  I never distinguish between the two because they are one in the same. It’s what makes some people and companies a pleasure to do business with and others a horror.  Peter is OUIDAD.  Ouidad is OUIDAD. The three are indistinguishable.

There are many ways to make money, but for us, there is only one way to make a reputation worth being proud of – earn the trust of your customers.  Work hard, be fair, and be honest.

We recognize that not everyone will be satisfied with our products.  That is why we offer a “Satisfaction Guarantee”.  We hope that if even if you do not like our products, that you will love our service and enjoy doing business with us.

Our goal is to work so hard to satisfy you that you would feel comfortable recommending our products even if you don’t still use them yourself.  After you return your products, we hope you’d be willing to say to a friend… hey… the products didn’t satisfy me, but they might work for your curls.  Ordering and returning is hassle free.  Go ahead and try Ouidad.

If you can’t, then we’ve failed you.

Curls, the Impetus behind Ouidad!

Set your alarm hours early.  Get the blow dryer ready for a possible two hour-long run.  And please, please don’t let it rain, mist, snow or be anything other than dry, crisp and cool.  Do you recognize this morning? So did Ouidad.

Pronounced “wee-dod,” she came from a family full of curls. While her sister spent an hour and a half every day fighting her elaborate natural locks with the hair dryer, Ouidad let her curls flow.  She was no stranger to hardships by letting her curls wave – being mocked by her straight-haired classmates was a daily routine.

A self-proclaimed tomboy, Ouidad fought back by, well, fighting.  However, she quickly realized that would get her nowhere.  The best revenge would be to address the real issue, her curly hair!

Lucky for her she had a house full of clients. Little did they know their hair was being worked on by someone who would later be dubbed “The Queen of Curl.”

After working at a salon in Rhode Island she searched for apprenticeships in Europe.  She found one in Rome, then Paris where she worked for clients like Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent.  Her work continued in London where she did hair on the original production of Evita. Then, it was off to New York when the show launched on Broadway.  Curls, the Impetus behind Ouidad!

It was in New York where she established her name by working on all the curly-haired models for companies like Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Benetton. Three North American Hairstyling Awards for Best Stylist in the United States later, the first Ouidad Salon was born!
